First Visits
Happy Teeth Dentistry offers well-check exams to children under three. “Happy Teeth” visits are a great way for parents and their children to get acquainted with our practice, meet Dr. Ganson and ask any questions they might have. Some children under three will even allow their teeth to be cleaned!
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics all recommend a dental visit for children by age one. Many parents don’t know their children need to visit a dentist in the first year of life, which leaves a large number of infants potentially vulnerable to tooth decay and disease. Tooth decay can begin as early as the teeth begin to emerge, typically at six months, and often progresses rapidly. Left untreated, it can destroy tiny teeth and lead to needless pain and suffering, infection, loss of function, increased health care costs and lifelong health consequences.
Children who wait to have their first dental visit until age two or three are more likely to require fillings and emergency visits.
